Path and Inspiration
I aspired to be an artist for as long as I can remember. My journey with clay began in my last years of school, followed by four years in Cardiff studying Painting and Ceramics under Frank Vining. After art college, I did a PGCE at London University Institute of Education when Bill Newland was Head of Ceramics.
A transformative summer in Denmark introduced me to Scandinavian Design, while another summer exploring Greece connected me with ancient Mycenaean and Cretan civilizations. After university, I balanced teaching art with creating my own work and raising two children.
The sea is a profound influence on my work.
Process and Practice
Since moving to Poole in 1996, I have exhibited regularly in the area.
My focus has been primarily on stoneware, but I discovered Raku during a sabbatical term in Philadelphia, where I became fascinated by the process while working at The Clay Factory!
Life drawing remains central to my practice, and I still draw weekly at the Dolphin Studio in Poole.
I create my own glazes and sell my work online, accepting commissions as well.
