Path and Inspiration
I studied Fine Art in the 80’s but it was only when I moved to Dorset in 1995 that I discovered the delight of working with clay at an evening class. I had a successful career making computer software but kept my ceramics hobby going over the years by attending community studios at least one day a week until I set up my own studio at home in 2011. I retired from computing in 2022 to be able to make ceramics every day. I am inspired by the colours and shapes of nature so animals often feature in my work.
Process and Practice
I keep a mix of wheel throwing, hand building and sculpture on the go using white stoneware clay. My preferred decorating technique is a mixture of underglazes and glazes. I love the bright colours that can be more easily achieved with underglaze. There is always something that I can do differently or better and there are frequent disasters to overcome as I experiment. I am not the fastest maker but every piece is a work of dedication, love and joy and I hope that shines through in my finished creations.
