Path and Inspiration

Recent retirement from a long career as a clinical scientist in the NHS gave Clare the opportunity to try ceramics. This came after many years satisfying her artistic side through drawing, pastel painting and textile crafts. She was instantly hooked and is now enjoying broadening her experience and trying different techniques.

Clare finds inspiration from many sources, but most come back to the natural world. Her instinctive colour palette comes from the sea. She loves the serenity of simple forms, but also celebrates with colour & pattern.

Process and Practice

Clare mostly produces thrown pieces and has so far concentrated on functional ware, aiming to produce beautiful pieces that are a joy to use everyday.

Clare works mainly in stoneware, throwing pieces at pottery class in Poole or at home. She then decorates with a variety of techniques such as relief work, sgraffito, slip transfer, carving & simple glazing..
